Artist's Comment: meant as a follow up and compliment to the prior poem, "sports fan," the twinkle in th eye humor continues, but now the sports viewer warrior is no longer alone :-)
dating the writing of the poem is the reference to viewing the on-air station til it was off the air and "signing off" - do any channels do this anymore? if they do, we're off to a cable or other channel in a click
but i'm not sure the sports fan and significant other's hopefully playful play-by-play is much changed :-)

Sports Fan & Wife
“Sweetheart. Lunch time.”
uh, just bring me something,
the game just started....”
“Honey. Supper’s ready.”
just a minute, they’re getting
ready to kick-off....
“Sugar. It’s time to go to bed.”
in a minute, game’s almost over....
At last, the last sports show is done.
The national anthem has played. Each
non-all shopping or all-news channel
has signed off. Slowly the weary sports
fan find his way from the permanently
imprinted sofa, making one last bathroom
stop, then joins his peacefully sleeping
wife in bed. And as the worn out
sports warrior sinks his visually
pummeled body into a deep deep sleep,
a voice, not unlike an umpire’s or
referee’s, summons him for one last play:
“Love. Wake up. It’s time.
Time to kick-off into overtime.”
