Original Poetry from Adan Lerma
A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: like a few other poems i've posted, (please see "my hungry heart") i made enough changes to warrant also posting the original 1995 version
in this case, in re-reading the original poem, it just seemed to much like a good outline than a reflection of my feelings about san antonio
i've never lived there, and usually only have visited either the museums, or around the riverwalk; so my experience is limited to the wonderful colorfulness and character of the people, and what the city represents to us visitors
in re to the colorfulness of the city and its people, the variety and breadth apply as easily, for example, to the vegetation preferred and used around the riverwalk
while the hike and bike area of austin, and certainly the buffalo bayou area of houston, are dense with varied greens, in san antonio, the plantings burst with the color used by the people in their many festivals in the city
though i currently only have one painting of san antonio, there are several wonderful images i look forward to doing

San Antonio
The Riverwalk. Where Indians
and missionaries once walked.
The Alamo. Where the brave
never balked. And People.
San Antonio’s best.
Dusty western town
grown into the USA’s
cultural port with Latin America.
The narrow trails now filled with
throughways always under construction:
to the Hill Country, old Mexico,
east to the Mississippi, west
past El Paso - gateway
and channel
merging cultures and times;
a spoke speaking Spanish & English
uniting the colorful hearts of the
most hospitable people
of Texas.

San Antonio
- original 1995 version -
The Riverwalk. Where Indians
and missionaries once walked.
The Alamo. Where the brave
never balked. And people.
San Antonio’s best.
Dusty western
town grown
into the USA’s
cultural port to all
of Latin America. And
the people. Friendliest in
the west. Mission bells now
ringing victory in stadiums for
sports in every field. Narrow trails
now filled with throughways leading
everywhere - the hill country, old Mexico.
And the best most varied people in all
Texas.

The text presented in the photo example below is how we print, a more cursive pretty font that won't reprint well here.
Also, we adjust the font size of the title, copyright, personalization, to fit both the writing itself, and the constraints of the mat opening (window) of the 8x10's we use.
