Original Poetry from Adan Lerma
A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: i've been here in austin through many sxsw festivals, and one of the best things about it, beyond the music itself, is the broadening of the people mix
though most of the people visiting from other cities, other countries, other cultures, are as young as the median age of austin's population, there are more dialects, languages, colors, and styles of dress
there's less, if any, built up frustration of the things one often doesn't know of a place one is visiting unless one lives there; there's less stress visible of doing the day to day working at one's job; there's less numbing of being always being around the expected
the expectations, attitudes, and demeanors are of something good to happen
and usually it does :-)
i should mention, this poem was not planned, it started, on a creative whim, over the course of seeing bands sat afternoon at antones eating crawfish with spicey corn and potatoes, thought i'd finished it sat night, then revised it as i posted it online this morning; i think i still have some of the scrap paper i was writing on in the club (the napkin and extra paper towel from the men's room are gone though :-)

SXSW 2008 - I Live Here
(South by)
South by -
the nights are long.
Something's gotta be shortened.
Nighttime-size crowds lighting
the day - evenings pulse
with the rush to play.
Sounds
round every corner, rolling down alleys
asking directions in driving ballads
melodic rushes while bicycle surreys seek Antones
the Continental Club and Auditorium Shores.
Music sings both sides of the river.
Alejandro Escovedo, ya no es escondido.
Bands bands bands from everywhere everywhere.
"John Smith" "American Graveyard" "Del Castillo"
The girls all pleasure-smiling,
so much...appreciation.
"I came to hear the music"
"Baby, we are the music."
"Where you from?"
"Baby, I live here...."
Sound bounces off the new buildings,
down the old Colorado River - refreshed
hearts stirring new songs...
til the next new dawn.

Special notes:
The text presented in the photo example below is how we print, a more cursive pretty font that won't reprint well here.
Also, we adjust the font size of the title, copyright, personalization, to fit both the writing itself, and the constraints of the mat opening (window) of the 8x10's we use.
