Original Poetry from Adan Lerma
A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: as much about memories, that float in me like the thick fogs of houston did, on so many of those first haircuts i remember my dad taking me to, as of the haircuts themselves; and now of the simple feelings of trust, confidence, and love
a new work, i wanted to bring out these memories the posting of the related poem below had evoked from me
over a decade apart, both poems speak to the same time decades past when time had just begun for me
related poem: "a boy's first haircut"

the thought itself" - adan
My First Haircuts Taught Me
My Dad led me
to now gone barbershops
to teach me things
we didn’t know I was learning.
Trust. So simple
sitting by his side waiting
my turn at the huge swivel chairs
where
giant men with beards and gnarly eyebrows
sat quiet... as razors slid along
their still faces.
Confidence. Rich wood
panels lined round tall mirrors
multiplying the few of us into many.
Love...of change,
to my familiar face,
that spoke of new beginnings
begun again and again,
yet, like my Dad,
always remained, there with me.

Special notes:
The text presented in the photo example below is how we print, a more cursive pretty font that won't reprint well here.
Also, we adjust the font size of the title, copyright, personalization, to fit both the writing itself, and the constraints of the mat opening (window) of the 8x10's we use.
