Artist's Comment: this poem's a combination of some of my memories of my first haircuts (hard to remember "the" first one :-) and conversations i had with an old haircut lady i knew back in the mid 90's
the dialog format is one i like to use occasionally; this one reflecting the houston tx dialect tone i heard so well growing up i figured this was how everyone talked :-)
i plan to do another haircut poem in the future, with images i remember as a child in those now gone places my dad would take me to for my first haircuts

A Boy's First Haircut
“Sit down, little feller.
Make yourself comfortable.
We’re gonna make a new person.
Would you like that?
Well, you’ll be a while new
young person. No...no, it won’t
hurt. Other than a tuck or nip,
here or there. That won’t
bother you, will it? Well, then.
Good. I think we’re all ready.
We’re gonna make you into
that fine new young man
i told you about. Didn’t I
tell you about him? Well, well.
Sit straight now. Don’t move,
and I’ll tell you all about him.
I think you’re gonna like’im.”
