Artist's Comment: a current day tribute to the small island city that's often fancied itself a small island nation, and often acted on that fancy :-)
there's an enduringness of the place, the people, and salted blend of life that's created the unusual trait of a "shifting will," to coin a phrase; it's like a sea-legs attitude to adapting to the winds of life, with much looking forward to the many mild easy balmy days surrounding summer

NewGalvez Town
(Galveston)
Once again
the island stretches its people
across the sandbar of time
shifting ‘pon the
waters
of the Gulf of Mexico.
A century’s grown
old and died
since the
1900 Storm.
Seawalls,
bolstered homes,
and early-warning radar
have fattened its chances.
The island has always grown
proclaimers of their own fate.
June-teenth; Texas’ first newspaper;
my first ocean swim - my first consistent art.
And once again, only time’s cloaked look
will tell what would’ve been
lost
without the will of this island nation.

Special notes:
The text presented in the photo example below is how we print, a more cursive pretty font that won't reprint well here.
Also, we adjust the font size of the title, copyright, personalization, to fit both the writing itself, and the constraints of the mat opening (window) of the 8x10's we use.
