A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: from my first visit to galveston when i was about 5 with my family from houston, through the scattered years of the late 70's, most the 80's, and the last half of the 90's, galveston and it's history's held a fascination for me
this particular poem of the island city connect the souls of the first thought inhabitants, possibly naked cannibals, to the naked souls of today's dwellers, with the islands own enduring spirit

Old Galvez Town
(Galveston)
Ancient
sand dune
stretched wide
by the naked flesh
eaters now gone. Modern-day
sun watchers swim the
seawall, offering bargain
coconut scents.
A feast for pale hordes
lost from the dense mainland.
But when the old homes quake
shaking their tall antennae - when
the sea throws a hurricane with foam,
the ancient island also rises -
clothing, preserving the
the lost naked souls
with its own
salty sultry truth.

Special notes:
The text presented in the photo example below is how we print, a more cursive pretty font that won't reprint well here.
Also, we adjust the font size of the title, copyright, personalization, to fit both the writing itself, and the constraints of the mat opening (window) of the 8x10's we use.
