Artist's Comment: many of my poems, though grounded as sincerely as i can within my own feelings and sensibilities, are just as often as much observational of things and people around me or that i've known; this particular work though was grounded in the moment for me
like a few of my poems ("angel wings"), this one was written for me; it's message was directly directed to me (notice the double intention :-)
i've produced visual and written work for many years, decades really, now; and sometimes in the lack of time to do all the things i'd like to do (not to mention financial resources, but aren't most of us like that :-) i need a self-boost-talk
the idea of the imagery of stones wearing down yet retaining its own beauty appealed to me, though unlike the rough sides of the stones wearing smoother over time, i've probably added a few lines and rough edges, but the feeling-idea still seemed to fit :-)

Endurance
There was a task, once.
Required a wall
large stones smooth tops
smooth bottoms rough sides
laid heavy
upon a demanding earth.
Years then decades stretched to centuries.
The days filled with pauses of stillness
wrapped in ribbons...reflecting the changing lights.
The nights bore witness to the waiting.
The rough textured sides smoothed
but only here - there
in rivlets
reaping soils
the earth coughed as winds -
Filaments...
shoots of dirt made green into buds
tiny tender kissing
the air.
Tourists call
coming to the wall now. Heard
there once was a task
required a wall
still and standing
speaking of the past its new task
saying smiling
endurance can be beautiful.
