Artist's Comment: very rare instance of deliberately using a rhyming scheme; meant to poke fun at most people in or wanting to be in public office

i realize now i really should do one on "statesman" for fairness and balance; hopefully in the near future

Politician's Prayer

Now I lay me down to count
Not sheep, but votes the polls
do tout.

If I can get just 10 more points!
My opponent’s nose will be out
of joint.

But if my speeches result in
“maybe’s”
I’ll have to resort to kissing
babies.

Make promises they want to hear,
Tell sad stories and shed a tear.

If I should die before I wake,
At least I won’t know who won,
For heaven’s sake!
