A Gift for RememberingTM
Artist's Comment: my 40th high school reunion's coming up this year, so no surprise this was on my mind
for many years i was very proud of never having missed one of our get-togethers, but that fell apart the most recent decade (how convenient to be able to place time in large blocks now :-)
from the first ten yr reunion where the worry was who'd look good and who wouldn't, to the more recent, wondering who'll show up and who no longer can, reunions are a good reminder of our markers in life
so many feelings and thoughts and memories get stirred up; i can understand those who shun them, but for me, it'd be like choosing not to have been
and when one feels the connection from today to the past, and equally feels the past recognizing us in our present, a continuity of completeness is created - i've tried to say some of that in this poem
also, i seem to be finding, more and more, that my commentary, to both my older and these newer poems, is itself helping me round my expression of the core feeling i began with
