Artist's Comment: doing many mall shows for many years where my wife and i sold both original art work and our writings, we'd often have groups of young teen girls giggling, browsing through our selections, and this is a humored attempt to catch the quick quips and nuance of girls being friends yet feeling some of their competition between them
it wasn't really til re-reading this recently i realized how many of these "cute" comments and thoughts between these girls expressed so much their deep running feelings on trust and expectations of the other

Friends' Creed
We promise, on pain of doing
only what the other wants
for a whole week! that
we won’t lie: big or
small, white or not,
to “save” the other’s
feelings, bank acct.,
ego or relationship
with anyone (but
especially those people
we don’t care much for
anyway.) That we won’t
abuse the chance to use
up each other’s time, clothes,
make-up, bank acct. or
relationship with anyone
(especially those people we’d
love to care for much more,
any old way :-) But we
especially promise never
to ever promise promises
that’d never please
either of us -
anyway.
