Artist Commentary
"Barton Springs Canoe"
the view from the bridge on barton springs road leading into or from zilker park within site of downtown austin
the indians from recent-ancient days, and college kids, residents, and lucky visitors to the state capitol of texas, cherish and value this fragile spot of nature in the heart of the city
some say the zilker park and barton springs, along with lady bird lake which barton springs empties into, "are" the heart of austin; all else is embellishments
in the winter, one can canoe in moderation from the water, and in summer, be cooled by the same moderating force
floods have scraped and shaped the banks even in the relatively short nearly 20 plus years i've known about this spot, and medium-wide walks with spots of hand railings have been placed along the banks; one can literally walk from the pool at barton springs, underneath the bridge where this view is from, to lady bird lake
a good view from the water is my painting, "rowing on barton springs canoe" was from a photo taken in feb the first time my wife and i canoed on barton springs
