Artist's Comment: i myself only ever've taken a couple of classes, but have many friends and family who have really enjoyed the benefits of learning and practising one of the martial arts; they're sense of self and physical improvement have been truly admirable; speaking with a few well accomplished practitioners helped me see the lineage in this sport to other spiritually-capable endeavors

Martial Arts
The first and last energy is always within.
Make friends of one’s demons.
Demand
they breathe their scented secrets
and cleansing white fires,
their gifts of creation,
only upon your
total command.
One body. One mind.
No longer two halves needing
to blend or match. But one person.
Always at one with oneself. Then
you will have prepared for life’s
second necessity.
Oneness with the world outside.
The first true conflict
- inside -
will have prepared you.
