"Houston Buffalo Bayou from Sabine Street Bridge"
though born in brownsville, tx, i grew up from about 3 1/2 in houston where my dad moved me, my mom, and younger brother rene to; i always teased my dad it was the best thing he ever did for us, moving the family to houston :-) 'course this is way before anyone thought developing the valley meant more than growing bigger oranges :-) brownsville's time would have to wait til about now
i grew up in the heights (my mom and two sisters still live right around there) and it wasn't long after my friends and i had bicycles that we were exploring the white oak and buffalo bayous; it wasn't anything to just set our bikes down high on the banks and disappear for hours climbing and winding through the high grasses and stump trees like men lost in the forest or jungle
the view here is from the sabine street bridge, and if you make a 180 turn, you look smack at the houston skyline, a painting of i'm working on now, and have been for a couple months; slow going, like prowling through the bayous before they were remade with the nice jogging trails and cleaned landscaping visible in this painting
though i have fond fond memories of those days as a young boy, there weren't many days we wished the bayou weren't more like today, with flush flat fields above the shallow banks to run and play ball on, and definitely less mosquitos :-)
this is a morning view, with soft mist still hanging over the land
