Artist's Comment: sheila wrote this as a composite for several aunts she loved and knew well
though sheila and her family are from vermont, one aunt had moved to florida, and sheila would take the train all the way from northern vt to miami to work and spend the summer with her aunt there, living many special memories

My Aunt...My Friend
You’ve always been easy to talk to
in a different way
than my mother.
Your listening voice,
your knowing nod,
accepting me
like your own daughter.
I could always say
what was on my mind,
and reveal
what was in my heart.
You were there to understand me
and help me tell the two apart.
All this has meant a lot to me,
even though I may never say.
Just wanted you to know
how I feel
today and every day.
