Artist Commentary
"From Bryant Park NYC"
i couldn't place the image on the canvas in terms of cropping or size without going to a 9x12 size; it's a standard size, like an 8x10, but harder to generally find; with custom framing though, of course, that's not much of an issue (if at all)
I had intended this to be a quick study, but kept finding I wanted to keep working on it. The image presented a lot of challenges to me and I enjoyed searching for ways to make it work. I initially created a white mat look around the image because I found that a white frame really sets it off well, though i'd had had problems with the white frames I'd found so far, but did finally find a frame i liked at Hobby Lobby.
I've posted the initial photo I had of this painting for quite awhile on the site, below at the bottom of this page. The natural light and frame make an incredible difference. Though the heavier texture of the trees still shows somewhat subdued, the colors and tone are much more as they are "live." :-)
so, in many ways, the image has continued to prove itself to be slightly beyond the norm. :-)
I especially like the trees before the older buildings and the water tank tower to the top right; and this is in Manhattan!
the initial photo i worked from came from my son philip's trip there in '06 with his wife lisa
