Artist's Comment: i'll be honest with you, i believe what's in this work, after all i wrote it, but it shouldn't be taken to mean it isn't nice to have the means to purchase things, or eat well, or afford health care; it did mean and still does that the true source of riches, maybe even especially so if one is fortunate enough to be wealthy, is very much so...within

Your Riches Within
You stand up straight.
A clear light resting alertly
in your eyes. People wander by.
And they wonder. What is it?
You don’t dress like the rich.
Or even the just-well-off.
And yet you don’t walk
like those trodden on,
beat upon, by life.
You even glance
at items in the
windows, but
not overly so.
There’s no pang.
No hungering.
Like a fist clenched -
holding nothing.
Desiring everything.
And you don’t jerk to
the side when pushy
people try taking your
space as they loudly -
“importantly”, walk by.
In time
they may find what
you have already found.
Your own inner worth. And that,
you’ve learned, must only be spent wisely.
